This Swisher basement belongs to a family that needed to address a serious matter with their home/foundation. Unsure of what was happening and in need of expert advice, the homeowners called on the team at MidAmerica Basement Systems. An expert inspected the home and assessed that Helical Piers would be the best solution for their home's condition. Helical Piers are designed to attempt to lift the home back to its original position as well as stabilize lighter structures such as decks. The PolyLevel system is a unique process by injecting foam under the concrete to raise it up. Design specialist Michael Banks came out to Michael and Susan K.'s home to provide them with a customized plan for getting their driveway back to its original location. The driveway needed to be lifted several inches on both sides, and their front walkway would also need to be raised. Soon, she met with design specialist Mike Darnell, who custom designed a solution that would work for Doris's basement issues.

The soultion involved the use of custom-built PowerBraces and WallAnchors. The PowerrBraces would have to be built to accomodate the Michigan basement style (when one part of the basement is lower than the other.) This meant the PowerBraces would have to be dramatically "offset" and joining Cross Beams were used for additional support. Foreman Pete Hensler and team set to work installing the new stabilization system. The foundation of his home is now stable, and Aidan has the much needed peace of mind!
Dennis C. met with his MidAmerica Basement Systems design specialist to talk about waterproofing options. It was during this conversation that Dennis learned that after his waterproofing system was installed, the walls could be waterproofed with EverLast Wall Restoration. So, after Dennis C. of Iowa City had his waterproofing system installed by MidAmerica Basement Systems, he decided that instead of drywall basement walls, he would restore the walls with EverLast Wall Restoration.

Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas that can lead to lung cancer over long periods of concentrated exposure. Radon is found outside and inside, but can have high concentrated levels indoors. Testing for Radon levels is very important, and only takes a matter of 2-3 days to test. Once test results are returned, EPA recommends that anything over 4 pCi/L be addressed. During inspection it was noted that her wall was bowing and could be permanently stabilized. A GeoLock Wall Anchor system was installed to stop the wall from worsening. The large GeoLock Anchors were placed on the outside of her home deep in the ground to provide the proper counter act on the inward bowing wall. Once the plates were installed on the inside of the wall, the system was tightened to ensure the wall would not bow anymore inward. The GeoLock Wall Anchor system also offers the potential to tighten and straighten the wall over time, reducing the bow completely.
Al and Jan were noticing water leaking through their floor cracks in their basement and reached out to MidAmerica Basement Systems. During their evaluation, Bryan had offered them a WaterGuard and TripleSafe systems to address the water issue. WaterGuard was installed around the perimeter of the basement to collect and redirect the water, preventing it from surfacing on the floor. Now any water that is redirected to the TripleSafe will be properly discharged from the basement, leaving the area dry for Al and Jan.
Paul had very high radon levels in his home but did no know how to get rid of the issue. During his inspection, he was offered a radon mitigation system with a Breathe EZ Air filter. During inspection, it was brought to attention that the home had begun to settle due to the ground washing out from inside the crawlspace. A Helical Pier system was offered to stabilize the home and protect it from settling anymore. The piers were driven deep into the ground, to a stable bedrock, and provide a permanent solution to stabilizing the home. The helical pier system also offers the potential to lift the home back to its original state with a hydraulics system. Caleb now has a stable and sturdy home for many more years to come.
This new homeowner is frustrated that she bought a recently built home that is having water leaks in the basement through cracks on poured-in concrete foundation. She is hoping to finish her basement at some point, so it is very important for her to have a dry basement and to take care of the problem now before it gets worse. Highly qualified crew member Chris Riley had the privilege of helping solve the problem by installing WaterGuard around the perimeter of the basement. WaterGuard is designed not to clog, has a built in 3/8” gap between the floor and the wall to drain wall leaks and a big drain outlet to the sump.
