Sinking, Cracked Stoop Makes Entrance to Church Unsafe in Davenport, IA
Challenge
Jim and Sue, active members of the Hillcrest Church in Davenport, Iowa, were concerned with one of the main entrances to the sanctuary. A large, noticeable slope had become present, causing water to collect when it rained. When the carpet was pulled back, a large crack was discovered and located near the doors, the stoop had sunk about a 2-inches. They quickly turned to MidAmerica Basement Systems for help.
Solution
Cole offered them the solution of PolyLevel to lift, level and stabilize the sunken stoop. PolyLevel uses high-density polymers to fill voids and stabilize sunken concrete. Once the area is stabilized, the polymers react and expand to lift the sunken areas. The lightweight material has the ability to lift structures with a force of 2,000 to 4,000 pounds per square foot. Using small injection sights, the stoop was lifted within minutes, leveling the area, and reducing the gap between the stoop and the door frame. Crewmen applied a NexusPro Joint Sealant along the stress crack to permanently seal the stoop. This will prevent future water from seeping down through the area and allow for a longer-lasting solution of PolyLevel. Jim and Sue can now focus on other aspects of the church, and are happy to know the stoop is once again less of a safety hazards to all visitors.
