Foundation Repair in Peru, IL
Challenge
A homeowner in Peru, IL, contacted MidAmerica Basement Systems facing a critical structural issue. The basement walls had begun to bow and crack significantly, threatening the overall stability of the home. Left unaddressed, the inward pressure from the surrounding soil—often referred to as hydrostatic pressure—was pushing the foundation toward a total collapse.
The Problem:
The primary concern was the significant inward deflection of the masonry walls. The symptoms included large horizontal and stair-step cracks, visible bowing in the center of the walls, and encroaching soil pressure that compromised the home’s structural footprint.
Solution
The Solution: Engineered Support
Under the leadership of Foreman Brian Lopez, the team implemented a heavy-duty stabilization plan featuring two of our most effective systems.
First, we installed GeoLock® Wall Anchors. These heavy-duty earth anchors were embedded in stable soil well away from the foundation. They were then connected to interior wall plates with high-strength galvanized steel rods, utilizing the earth's own weight to pull the walls back into alignment.
In areas where exterior access was limited, we installed the PowerBrace™ System. These zinc-plated steel I-beams were secured to the basement floor and the overhead floor joists. This provided immediate stabilization and prevented any further inward movement.
Final Results:
The combination of GeoLock and PowerBrace transformed the basement from a liability into a stable, secure environment. The walls are now permanently braced against soil pressure, and the adjustable nature of these systems allows for periodic tightening to eventually return the walls to their original vertical position. This restoration of structural integrity removed the homeowner's "worry lines" and ensured the foundation is built to last.
