High-Performance CleanSpace® Barrier for Stillman Valley Residence
Challenge
A Stillman Valley homeowner contacted MidAmerica Basement Systems after noticing cold floors, damp indoor air, and persistent musty odors migrating upward into their main living space. An evaluation revealed an open-dirt crawlspace where groundwater was constantly evaporating into the air pocket beneath the floor joists. Outside air entering through open foundation vents combined with the high humidity, creating prime conditions for wood rot, high heating bills, and mold growth that compromised the home's indoor air quality.
Solution
To permanently seal out sub-grade humidity and stabilize the air under the home, our specialist designed a CleanSpace® crawlspace encapsulation setup. All open foundation vents and rim joist gaps will be air-sealed to eliminate outside air exchange. A 20-mil thick, 7-layer antimicrobial vapor barrier will be tailored across the dirt floor and fastened high up the foundation walls to create an impenetrable seal against ground moisture. Finally, a high-efficiency dehumidifier designed specifically for low-clearance spaces will be installed to continuously regulate humidity levels and keep the ambient relative humidity well below 50%.
