Interior Drainage System Proposal for Rock City Residence
Challenge
A Rock City property owner contacted MidAmerica Basement Systems after discovering recurring water pooling, damp wall bases, and high humidity in their basement following severe rainstorms. Dense local soils surrounding the foundation were retaining heavy moisture, generating hydrostatic pressure that forced water straight through the expansion seam where the concrete floor meets the wall. Seeking a long-term solution to prevent water damage, eliminate mold risks, and protect their property value, the owner requested an expert foundation assessment.
Solution
To relieve sub-surface water pressure and keep the home's interior dry, our specialist engineered a complete sub-floor drainage plan. The system involves placing a specialized perimeter drainage channel beneath the concrete slab along the footing to continuously catch incoming groundwater. Collected water is directed into a sealed sump basin equipped with a primary pump and an emergency battery backup system for power outages. Water is then safely pumped outdoors through a high-volume discharge pipe fitted with an exterior anti-freeze vent to ensure uninterrupted operation during winter months.
