Garage Foundation Stabilized in Coralville, IA
Challenge
Carol and Michael from Coralville were referred to the MidAmerica Basement Systems experts by a Structural Engineer to stabilize their settling garage foundation. The couple spoke to Appointment Center Representative, Jessica McDonough, and further explained that have noticed that our garage door had shifted which led them to having the foundation looked at. The team sent Design Specialist, Joe Sarb, to provide the couple a thorough inspection and same day quote. Joe further explained why Helical Piers would be the best, permanent solution for their garage.
Solution
The team was led by Foreman, Peter Hensler. First Peter and the team uses an excavator to remove the soil away from the foundation to gain access to the foundation footing. Grooves in the foundation are constructed to fit the heavy duty steel brackets that will be attached. The team uses hydraulic pressure to drive the piers deep into competent soil. Once the desired depth is reached, the steel brackets are positioned below the footing. The weight of the home is then transferred through the helical piers to deep, competent soil. Once the garage is stabilized, the team backfills the soil around the foundation and tampers it. Carol and Michael have a stable, level garage!
