When we think of home maintenance, we often look up at the roof or inside at the plumbing, completely overlooking the very ground we walk on. For one homeowner in Peoria, IL, a shifting walkway had slowly turned their flat, welcoming entrance into something resembling a miniature mountain range. It was a stressful sight, especially with grandkids frequently running around the property. Nobody wants a family visit interrupted by an Olympic-grade ankle flip, so they made the smart choice to call in the team at MidAmerica Basement Systems before the trip hazards could get any worse.

The journey to smooth concrete started with our System Design Specialist, Tim Rollet, who arrived to inspect the shifting walkway. Tim took the time to investigate the root cause of the problem, decoding exactly why the slabs were sinking so he could create a permanent fix. Once the plan was locked in, our dynamic production duo—foreman Justin Maddox and his skilled crew member Devin—headed out to the property to bring the strategy to life.

Justin and Devin got right to work utilizing our advanced PolyLevel system. They began by drilling precise, pecan-sized holes into the sunken sections of the walkway. Through these small entry points, they injected a high-density polyurethane foam that expands rapidly beneath the surface. Like a pastry chef perfectly lifting dough, the foam gently nudged the heavy concrete slabs back up to their original, uniform level. To ensure the walkway stays safe and beautiful for years to come, Justin and Devin wrapped up the job using NexusPro joint sealant, which protects the cracks from harsh freeze-thaw cycles and water damage. By the time the crew packed up, the walkway was as smooth as butter, leaving behind a highly relieved homeowner and a much safer environment for the whole family.
