Challenge

A homeowner in Cedar Rapids, IA, was experiencing significant issues with their basement. Their existing sump pump was running constantly, indicating a persistent problem with water. This became even more apparent during heavy rains when the pump couldn't keep up, leading to water entering the basement. The constant dampness rendered the space unusable and created serious concerns about the potential for mold and mildew growth, posing a risk to both the property and their health. The homeowner was left feeling anxious and stressed every time it rained fearing the basement would flood. 

Solution

To effectively address the homeowners concerns, a comprehensive water management system was installed to work hand in hand with their existing sump pump. This solution involved 2 key components: WaterGuard, an innovative sub-floor drainage system installed along the perimeter of the basement to capture water entering the walls and direct it to the sump pit, and CleanSpace, a durable, bright white vapor barrier applied to the basement walls. This encapsulation system not only acts as a barrier against moisture but also brightens the basement, creating a cleaner, more usable space. Both WaterGuard and CleanSpace were integrated with the homeowners existing sump pump, creating a robust and efficient system to manage water intrusion. 

The installation of the WaterGuard and CleanSpace successfully transformed the homeowners basement. As a result, the sump pump no longer runs non-stop, and the basement remains dry even during heavy rainfall. The homeowner now enjoys a safe, healthy, and fully usable basement, free from the worries of water damage, mold, or mildew. They can now rest easy during rainstorms, confident in the protection of their home.
