Challenge
A homeowner in Blue Grass, Iowa, was grappling with a severe and persistent basement flooding issue, despite already having a sump pump installed. This indicated a fundamental inadequacy in the existing water management system. During a comprehensive on-site inspection, our System Design Specialist identified that the problem wasn't a malfunctioning pump, but rather an overwhelming volume of water infiltration that the single pump could not possibly handle. Water was actively seeping through the foundation walls and up from the basement floor, a clear sign of significant hydrostatic pressure building up in the soil around and beneath the home. The current setup lacked a proper collection and channeling system, meaning water was reaching the basement interior unmitigated before the pump could activate, leading to recurrent flooding, potential property damage, and the risk of mold and mildew growth. The primary challenge was to implement a robust and comprehensive waterproofing solution that could effectively intercept this extensive water intrusion and direct it safely away, ultimately transforming the damp, flood-prone basement into a consistently dry and usable space.
Solution
To resolve the homeowner's flooding problem, we implemented our highly effective WaterGuard interior perimeter drainage system. This solution was precisely chosen for its ability to address the root cause of the water intrusion. Unlike exterior drainage systems that require extensive excavation, WaterGuard™ is installed cleanly and efficiently inside the basement, just above the foundation footing. This strategic placement ensures it collects water seeping through the walls and any water rising from the floor before it can enter the living area. The WaterGuard™ system, designed with a unique wall flange, directs water from the walls into the drain without allowing it to flow over the footing. Crucially, this new perimeter system was seamlessly integrated and "tied in" with the homeowner's existing, functional sump pump. By channeling all collected water from the WaterGuard™ system directly to the sump pump, we created a complete and highly efficient water removal network. This combined approach significantly augmented the capacity of the existing pump, providing a comprehensive, clog-free drainage path that effectively manages and expels even large volumes of water, thereby combating hydrostatic pressure and preventing future flooding, ensuring the basement remains dry even under the harshest weather conditions.
