Flooded Basement Waterproofed in East Moline, IL
Challenge
An East Moline homeowner experienced severe basement water intrusion, a problem that reached a critical point following record-breaking summer rainfall. The basement suffered from persistent standing water long after storms had passed, leading to high humidity levels and increased risk of structural degradation and mold proliferation. The primary challenge was to move beyond temporary water removal and address the systemating failure on the foundation to repel pressure and groundwater seepage.
Solution
To provide a permanent remedy, a multi-staged waterproofing strategy was implemented, focusing on proactive drainage and redundant pumping capabilities. The process began with the installation of the WaterGuard sub-floor drainage system. Unlike traditional exterior drains that are prone to clogging, this interior system was engineered to intercept seepage at the critical joint where the walls meet the floor, directing it safely away from the living space.
This drainage network was integrated with the TripleSafe Sump Pump system, chosen specifically for its high-capacity reliability. To ensure the basement remains dry even during the very conditions that cause the most failures, the system features three distinct pumps, including a secondary high-volume pump and a dedicated batter-backup. This redundancy guarantees continuous operation even if the primary pump is overwhelmed or the electricity is out.
Finally, the foundation walls were encapsulated with a CleanSpace vapor barrier. This heavy-duty liner serves a a permanent moisture shield, preventing water vapor from evaporating into the basement air. By restricting moisture at the source, the solution effectively eliminated the root cause of musty odors and created an environment inhospitable to mold growth. The result is a fully protected, dry foundation that offers the homeowner long-term peace of mind and restored property value.
