Basement Waterproofing in Lamont, IA
Challenge
Upon inspection, our team identified that the existing support posts in the crawlspace/basement were failing. Over time, the soil beneath the original footings had shifted and compressed, causing the floor joists to settle. This resulted in:
Sloping Floors: Noticeable dips in the main living areas.
Structural Strain: Increased pressure on interior walls, leading to potential drywall cracks.
Lack of Support: The original wooden or thin-metal supports were no longer sufficient for the home's load.
Solution
To provide a permanent fix, we installed the SmartJack® Stabilizer. This system was chosen for its durability and precision.
Structural Footing: We excavated a small area for each jack and installed a base of engineered fill (compacted crushed stone) to distribute the load effectively.
High-Strength Steel: Galvanized steel columns were custom-cut to fit the space, ensuring they would never rust or corrode.
Adjustable Lift: Unlike traditional concrete piers, the SmartJack® features a threaded rod that allows for manual tightening. This allows our team to actually lift the floor joists back toward their original level.
