Basement Waterproofing in East Dubuque, IL
Challenge
This project addressed a complex dual-threat environment in East Dubuque, IL, where the homeowners were struggling with significant groundwater intrusion during heavy rain events and dangerous elevated radon levels. By implementing an integrated system of moisture control and soil gas ventilation, MidAmerica Basement Systems successfully transformed a high-risk basement into a dry, healthy, and protected environment.
- Salesman: Noel McDonald
- The Challenge: The homeowners, Lisa and Tom, faced a basement that became unusable during storms due to seepage, compounded by the discovery of high radon concentrations.
Noel McDonald conducted a thorough site assessment, identifying the specific entry points for water along the foundation footer and evaluating the soil conditions for radon system placement. His strategic design focused on a "defense-in-depth" approach, ensuring that the water management system and radon mitigation worked in tandem rather than in conflict.
Solution
The project utilized a suite of high-performance products designed to provide permanent relief from environmental stressors:
- WaterGuard: A subfloor perimeter drainage system installed to intercept water at the cove joint.
- SuperSump: A high-capacity pump system to provide powerful discharge and reliable backup.
- CleanSpace Wall System: A heavy-duty, antimicrobial vapor barrier to seal out moisture and redirect wall leaks.
- IceGuard: A specialized discharge fitting to prevent system failure during freezing winter temperatures.
- Premium Radon Mitigation System: A high-suction ventilation system designed to depressurize the soil and exhaust radon gas safely above the roofline.
Under the leadership of Foreman Jacob Schultz, the production team executed a precise installation that required navigating the existing basement footprint to ensure maximum efficiency.
Jacob’s team successfully installed the WaterGuard and SuperSump systems to create a dedicated path for water, while the CleanSpace application provided a clean, bright finish that modernized the basement's appearance. The Premium Radon Mitigation System was seamlessly integrated, effectively lowering the home's radon levels to well below the EPA’s action limit.
