Sub-Grade Drainage & Hydrostatic Pressure Control Proposal
Challenge
A homeowner in Nachusa contacted MidAmerica Basement Systems after observing recurring water pooling, damp concrete, and elevated humidity levels in their basement following heavy rains. Saturated soils surrounding the foundation were building severe hydrostatic head pressure, forcing groundwater straight through the perimeter floor-wall joint and porous masonry. Seeking a permanent engineered solution to eliminate standing water and protect their property value, the owner requested an expert sub-structure evaluation.
Solution
To relieve hydrostatic pressure and isolate the home's interior, our design specialist engineered a complete sub-floor water management plan. The proposed system features a high-capacity, non-clogging perimeter drainage channel embedded beneath the concrete slab directly above the footing to continuously catch incoming groundwater. This channel routes water into a heavy-duty sump basin equipped with a primary cast-iron pump and an emergency battery backup system. Extracted groundwater is then safely pumped outdoors through a high-volume discharge pipe outfitted with an exterior freeze-guard attachment to prevent winter freeze-ups.
