Chana, IL, Crawl Space Encapsulation
Challenge
The homeowners of a residence in Chana, IL, were facing a common but serious structural issue: a damp, unsealed crawl space. This localized moisture wasn't just staying under the house, it was driving up the humidity levels throughout the entire home, compromising their indoor air quality and increasing the risk of mold growth and wood rot.
Solution
To address the root cause of moisture, MidAmerica Basement Systems implemented a comprehensive encapsulation and climate control strategy. The project involved 4 critical components designed to work in tandem.
- CleanSpace Drainage Matting was installed directly on the crawl space floor to create a dedicated channel for water to flow toward the drainage system, preventing pooling beneath the liner.
- A SmartSump sump pump system, designed specifically for crawl spaces, was then installed.
- Following that, the heavy duty 20-mil CleanSpace liner was used to fully encapsulate the space. This created an airtight seal that prevents moisture from evaporating into the home.
- Finally, to ensure the air remained dry and filtered, we installed a high-efficiency SaniDry Sedona Dehumidifier.
These products replaced a damp, dirt floor environment with a bright, clean, and dry foundation. By sealing out the elements and actively managing the air quality, the homeowners achieved several key benefits.
