Foundation Repair in Kewanee, IL
Challenge
Project Overview
A special education school in Kewanee, IL, was in the midst of a significant remodeling project when structural concerns brought progress to a halt. The existing foundation was failing, characterized by visible wall cracks and active water intrusion. To ensure the safety of the students and the longevity of the renovation, a permanent stabilization and waterproofing solution was required.
The Inspection
System Design Specialist Terry Meiners was called to the site to conduct a thorough evaluation of the sub-grade walls. Terry identified that the foundation was no longer able to withstand external soil pressure, leading to the cracks that were causing concern among the faculty and contractors. Additionally, the basement was suffering from water seepage that threatened to damage new interior finishes.
Terry developed a comprehensive remediation plan featuring the PowerBrace System for structural reinforcement and the WaterGuard drainage system for proactive water management.
Solution
The Installation
Foreman Toney Genova and his production crew were tasked with the technical execution of the project. The installation was divided into two primary phases:
-
Structural Support: Toney’s team installed the PowerBrace system, which utilizes high-strength, adjustable steel beams. These beams were secured to the floor joists and the concrete floor, providing immediate stabilization to the masonry walls without requiring exterior excavation.
- Water Mitigation: The crew then installed WaterGuard, a sub-floor drainage track designed to capture wall seepage and directed it to a sump pump system. This discreet installation ensures the basement remains dry and odor-free, regardless of external weather conditions.
The Result
The intervention by Terry Meiners and Toney Genova successfully neutralized the structural threats to the building. With the foundation stabilized and the water intrusion managed, the school was able to resume its remodeling project on schedule.
Today, the building provides a secure, dry environment where students and teachers can focus on education. This project serves as a prime example of how targeted foundation repair can save a renovation from costly delays and long-term structural failure.
