Stabilizing Deep Foundations: Helical Pier Installation in Davenport, IA

In Davenport, IA, shifting subgrade soils compromised a residential structure, causing differential settlement that jeopardized the home’s overall stability and long-term equity. Weak, expanding upper soil layers failed to bear the weight of the structure, causing footings to sink unevenly. To halt this structural movement, System Design Specialist Rob Chismark evaluated the site and engineered a deep-foundation stabilization strategy utilizing an industrial-grade Helical Pier System through MidAmerica Basement Systems.

Foreman Ian Carnithan led the production team, consisting of crew members David, Gio, and Markell, in executing the pier installation beneath the settled footings. The crew excavated down to expose the foundation footings and mechanically torque-screwed heavy-gauge steel shafts fitted with helical flight plates deep into the earth. Ian and the team advanced the piers through the weak, expansive topsoil until anchoring firmly into dense, load-bearing strata capable of holding the structure's weight.

Once the piers achieved the target torque capacity and structural depth, heavy-duty steel foundation brackets were attached underneath the home’s footing. The weight of the home was then transferred directly off the unstable soil and onto the steel piers anchored far below. Using hydraulic pressure against the installed piering matrix, the crew stabilized the foundation and attempted to lift the structure back toward its original level position. Following backfilling and site restoration, the home was left with a concealed, fully warrantied deep-foundation repair that ensures permanent stability.

Davenport, IA Home Increases Natural Light in Basement with EverLast Windows

Jackie of Davenport was looking to finish her basement but wanted more natural light. She reached out to MidAmerica Basement Systems on options for new basement windows to be installed. It was proposed to Jackie that installing EverLast windows will not only provide more natural light in her basement, but will also provide a more permanent seal between the window and foundation. EverLast windows are made of vinyl material so they will never rot, rust, or need a new coat of paint. Jackie now has a basement that is brighter for her finished basement.
