Cedar Rapids Driveway Repair Sinking Slabs Lifted to Prevent Car Bottoming Out

In Cedar Rapids, IA, a homeowner faced daily frustration and vehicle damage from a car bottoming out on their driveway—a direct result of uneven, settled concrete panels. Open gaps and unsealed control joints allowed rainwater to wash away the underlying subgrade soil, creating subterranean voids that caused the heavy slabs to sink and tilt.

System Design Specialist Chris Hebbel evaluated the driveway, diagnosing active soil erosion as the root cause of the differential settlement. Chris developed a targeted, non-invasive lifting and sealing strategy, which was executed on site by Foreman Justin Maddox Jr. and crew member Brantly.

The team first used the PolyLevel® geopolymer injection system, drilling discrete ports to inject expanding polyurethane foam directly into the voids beneath the sunken panels. The foam expanded rapidly, compacting the loose subgrade and lifting the concrete slabs back to a flush, level elevation. To prevent future soil washout, Justin and Brantly prepped and sealed all open cracks and joints using NexusPro® joint sealant, establishing a durable, flexible barrier against water infiltration and freeze-thaw cycles.
