Concrete Repair in Davenport, IA
Challenge
A residential property in Davenport, Iowa, presented with significant settlement issues across the main driveway. The concrete slabs had shifted and sunk, creating hazardous "trip hazards" and uneven transitions that threatened the structural integrity of the driveway and the safety of vehicles and pedestrians.
The Challenge: "The Driveway Trampoline"
Upon inspection, the driveway exhibited classic signs of soil consolidation and erosion. Over time, the subgrade soil had washed away or compacted, leaving large voids beneath the concrete. This lack of support caused the slabs to tilt and sink, resulting in:
- Safety Hazards: Large vertical offsets between slabs.
- Poor Drainage: Water pooling and channeling toward the foundation.
- Aesthetic Decline: Significant "cracked and shifted" appearance.
Solution
System Design Specialist Andrew Sagar conducted a comprehensive site assessment to determine the load-bearing requirements. He designed a solution utilizing high-density polymers and advanced silicone sealants to provide a permanent fix.
Under the leadership of Foreman Justin Maddox, Jr., the production crew implemented the PolyLevel® injection system:
- Non-Invasive Access: Small, 5/8-inch holes (penny-sized) were drilled strategically through the settled slabs.
- Precision Injection: A high-density polyurethane foam was injected into the voids.
- Expansion & Lift: Through a controlled chemical reaction, the foam expanded rapidly, filling all empty spaces and exerting enough upward pressure to lift the heavy concrete slabs back to their original, level position.
- Permanent Stabilization: Unlike traditional "mudjacking," PolyLevel® is waterproof and does not wash away, ensuring the soil remains stabilized indefinitely.
Once the slabs were leveled, the team addressed the root cause of the initial erosion: moisture intrusion.
- Joint Preparation: The crew cleaned and prepped the existing joints and cracks.
- Application: NexusPro® silicone-based sealant was applied across the driveway.
- Durability: Designed to withstand harsh Iowa temperature swings, NexusPro® remains flexible and UV-resistant, preventing water from infiltrating the subgrade and protecting the new lift from future settlement.
The collaboration between Andrew Sagar’s design and Justin Maddox, Jr.’s execution resulted in a complete restoration of the driveway’s functionality.
