From Trip Hazard to Backyard Oasis: A Structural Success Story
Challenge
A homeowner in Bettendorf, Iowa, reached out to our team with a frustrating problem: their backyard concrete patio was starting to sink and sag. Over time, normal soil settling had left the concrete slabs uneven.
Not only was the shifting concrete an eyesore and a major trip hazard, but it was also putting a serious damper on the homeowners' outdoor lifestyle. With barbecue season right around the corner, nobody wanted to risk a tilted grill or a guest tripping during a backyard get-together. Fearing the complications would only get worse and more expensive if left ignored, they called in our team to find a permanent fix.
The process began with a call to our friendly Customer Care team, who quickly scheduled a free, detailed inspection. Our System Design Specialist, Ryan Nolen, visited the Bettendorf home to perform a thorough examination of the patio.
Ryan assessed the extent of the settling and confirmed that the underlying soil had developed voids, causing the heavy slabs to sink. To resolve the issue efficiently without the mess and high cost of ripping out the entire patio, Ryan designed a custom restoration plan utilizing our advanced PolyLevel® and NexusPro® systems.
Solution
With the blueprint in hand, Foreman Justin Maddox and crew member Tanner arrived on-site ready to execute the plan and save the family’s summer cookouts.
Justin and Tanner began by drilling small, penny-sized holes into the sunken sections of the patio. They then injected our high-strength PolyLevel® polyurethane foam beneath the concrete. As the liquid foam filled the hidden voids, it expanded rapidly, gently lifting and stabilizing the heavy slabs back to their original, level position.
To ensure a lasting repair, the crew then introduced NexusPro®. Tanner and Justin meticulously applied this premium joint sealant to all the cracks and joints across the patio. This step was crucial; it created a durable, waterproof barrier that prevents future rainwater from seeping under the concrete and washing away the supporting soil.
Thanks to the seamless teamwork of Ryan, Justin, and Tanner, the project was a total success. The entire process was completed quickly, cleanly, and without the need for bulky, yard-destroying machinery. The homeowner was incredibly relieved to see their patio transformed from a rocky trip hazard into a smooth, safe oasis. With a problem-solved high-five all around, the backyard was officially handed back to the homeowners—perfectly level and fully ready for future friendly gatherings and perfectly cooked steaks.
