Cracks In Basement Wall

Cracks In Basement Wall

Basement Wall Crack Repair from MidAmerica Basement Systems

Basement wall cracks are a very common problem in many homes. The main cause for basement wall cracks is shifting soils in the ground that put pressure on the walls. As soil becomes wet, it expands and can put massive amounts of pressure on your basement walls, causing them to bow inward and crack.

Unfortunately, the cracks can become worse if left untreated. The cracks can eventually get large enough and cause your wall to completely fail and collapse, threatening your family’s safety. Even the smallest of cracks can be an early indicator of wall failure, so all cracks must be watched carefully.

Our experts at MidAmerica Basement Systems are happy to come evaluate your wall cracks to let you know the severity of the problem and recommend a solution.

Solutions for Leaking Wall Cracks & Pipe Penetrations

Many homes throughout Illinois and Iowa have small cracks in the foundation. Concrete often leaves small cracks after it cures, which are non-threatening to your home’s foundation. If you find that the cracks are getting bigger, water could be seeping through these cracks and entering your basement.

Protect your home from these hazardous wall cracks by calling our team today! We provide all our crack repair services in Cedar Rapids, Peoria, Waterloo, Davenport and the nearby areas.

Seal Wall Cracks. Repairing and sealing wall cracks will prevent future leaks.

The FlexiSpan® Wall System

At MidAmerica Basement Systems, we only offer the best products on the market to our customers. For wall repair, we use the FlexiSpan® Foundation Crack Repair System to permanently repair serious wall cracks.

To repair a flooding or leaky wall crack, we follow these five steps:

1Installation of a Drainage System Or Drywell

If you're waterproofing your basement with WaterGuard® or another interior drainage system, the FlexiSpan® can be integrated with it to direct any potential leaks to your sump pump. Otherwise, a small dry well about 5-10 gallons in size is created at the base of the crack.

2The Polyurethane Sealant

We start by sealing the crack with a high-viscosity polyurethane polymer. This gets deep in the cracks to form a durable, flexible seal.

3Secondary Drainage Strategy

Your polyurethane polymer seal should never fail. If it ever does, 95% of the water should still be stopped from leaking in. To ensure a proper repair, we install a secondary layer of drainage on the basement wall—one that will direct water to your basement drainage system or dry well.

4Finish the Repair

To keep your foundation walls looking great, we overlay your sealed wall crack with a polyurethane sealant. Light gray in color, it gives the repair a professional, finished appearance.

5Restore the Floor

After the wall crack has been repaired, the concrete floor is restored flush, with no gaps or openings. We pride ourselves on leaving our workplace clean and neat. The end result of the FlexiSpan® installation is a professional-looking, top-performing basement wall crack repair that includes a written warranty.

Aside from protecting your basement from water that leaks through wall cracks, it’s also important to protect your basement from other water sources. Water vapor can easily seep through the concrete and cause extensive damage to your basement. To prevent water vapor from becoming a problem, consider installing a vapor barrier to protect your basement from any water intrusion.

FlexiSpan® vs. Injection

The benefit of FlexiSpan® is that it will provide long-lasting, flexible support for your walls. Most other hydraulic cements or epoxy products will typically crack or dry out over time, but FlexiSpan® was designed with flexible material that allows it to continually cover cracks even when natural movement of the foundation walls occurs.

Changing weather conditions can cause your foundation walls to shift slightly, which is why it’s important to use a product like FlexiSpan® that will continue to provide coverage during these shifts.

Have total peace of mind with FlexiSpan® and keep your basement completely protected from any water intrusion.
